Born in Lusaka, Zambia, Nina Patel's interest in mantras stems from her Indian heritage, where the power of the mind is taught at a very early age through chanting mantras. Her earliest and fondest memories were of summers in India when she and her grandmother would go to kirtan, a devotional gathering, and chant mantras until the sun came up.

After moving to the United States with her family at age ten, Nina embraced her new Westernized life but found it difficult to incorporate her spiritual discipline with the increasing demands of life.  Her inspiration to spread awareness about the power of mantras happened upon the death of her grandmother in 2007– a time Nina describes as a spiritual awakening.  She quickly resigned from her high-profile, executive career and embarked on a journey of self-discovery.

With no prior music experience, but armed with passion and determination, Nina, as Mantra Mom,  gave birth to Mantras for my children and yours, released in May 2008, labor pains and all. The album, i am…, for adults was produced as the result of high demand from her fans and released in March last year.

Her albums, or creative 'children,’ as she calls them, are the products of a balanced mix of her Indian roots and Western influences meant to invigorate and educate today’s on-the-go person. Nina writes, produces, and performs the chants on her CDs as well as manages all aspects of her record label. She also juggles a part-time job with being a full-time mom and wife. Through her heartfelt commitment, Nina eventually found her spiritual path by providing a simple yet powerful method for others to learn Sanskrit mantras while living a modern lifestyle.

In addition, she donates 10% of CD profits to Vibha, a non-profit organization, that helps low-income children in India get proper healthcare and education.

Nina has written articles on the benefits of chanting mantras for children that have been published in Natural Awakening Magazine and Houston Family Magazine.  She is also a contributing writer for Sabse Bada Rupaiya, an Indian-American lifestyle magazine.

Nina lives in Houston, Texas with sons Jaidan (seven), Kalel (five), and is expecting a daughter in May with her loving husband of eleven years. She is a master of Reiki—a spiritual, healing practice—and practices Mantra Yoga. Nina also enjoys Zumba aerobics and throwing dinner parties for her friends and family.
