Born in Lusaka, Zambia (Africa), Nina's interest in mantras stems from her Indian heritage where the power of the mind is taught at a very early age through chanting mantras. Her earliest and fondest memories were of summers in India when she and her grandmother would go to kirtan and chant mantras until the sun came up. Her family moved to Los Angeles when she was 12 and her interest in spirituality increased over the years with the demands of life. Nina's transformation to Mantra Mom happened upon the sudden death of her grandmother in Spring ‘07 when Nina was 33. During this time, she was also feeling a sense of “What is my purpose in life?” what she calls her spiritual awakening. She quickly resigned from her high-profile executive career and embarked on a search to find truth. Since her transformation two years ago, Mantra Mom has given birth to two albums under her own label: Mantras for my children and yours, released May 2008, and Mantras for Girl Power, released August 2009. Her creative ''children," as she calls them are a perfect expression of Mantra Mom, combining her love of Bollywood, hip-hop and new age music while still focusing on pronunciation and enunciation of each mantra, which is known to help with their effectiveness. Unlike other artists, Nina's background is not in music. In fact, she has never had a singing lesson. She believes her years of dedication and discipline to the power of mantra meditation has led her to follow this path of creating an entertaining yet powerful method for teaching ancient Sanskrit mantras to today’s generation. Through heartfelt commitment, Mantra Mom produces, writes and chants on her CDs while managing all aspects of her record label and being a full-time mom. In addition, 10% of CD profits go toward helping low-income children in India get proper healthcare and education through a non-profit organization called Vibha. In 2009, she established “The Mantra Movement,” a online chanting movement to increase consciousness during these difficult times of economic hardship, confusion, fear, depression and chaos. She has also written articles on ‘The Benefits of chanting mantras for children’ that have been published in Natural Awakening Magazines and the Houston Family Magazine and she is a contributing writer for Sabse Bada Rupaiya magazine, a lifestyle Indo-American magazine. Nina lives in Houston, Texas with her two sons: Jaidan, 6, & Kalel, 4 and loving husband of ten years. She practices yoga, mantra meditation, energy dancing, is a Reiki Master and a darn good cook.
